BUKWO TOWN COUNCIL, BUKWO DISTRICT – Residents of Bukwo Town Council have expressed outrage over the deplorable state of Sonsho Bridge, despite Shs73 million reportedly being allocated for its rehabilitation.
The matter came to light when residents took Hon. Balaam Barugahara to the site to witness the condition of the bridge firsthand.
According to the residents, the district allocated Shs73 million for the works and culverts were purchased, but to date, the culverts have never been installed. The old bridge structure is now caving in and poses a serious risk to users.
Locals who depend on the bridge to connect to the town, schools, health facilities and markets said it has become a death trap, especially at night.
They told Hon. Balaam that several boda boda riders have fallen into the river while attempting to cross at night due to poor visibility and the broken sections of the bridge.
Hon. Balaam assured the residents that he would engage the district leadership and relevant technical officers to ensure the culverts are installed and the bridge is fixed without further delay.
