MANAFWA – Hon. Baruhara Balaam, has raised alarm over the quality of the newly constructed Nangirima Bridge in Manafwa District.
The Shs 800 million bridge is located in Masaka Town Council. It was constructed in the Financial Year 2023/2024.
Minister Balaam was in Manafwa District on an ati corruption campaign when concerned residents led him to the bridge to see its condition firsthand.
On inspection, the minister found that the bridge was allegedly constructed without steel reinforcement, with visible cracks already developing on the structure. The bridge also lacks safety barriers, putting pedestrians, cyclists and motorists at risk of falling off while crossing.
The state of the bridge left the minister disappointed.
Speaking at the site, Balaam said the people of Manafwa have remained loyal supporters of the NRM government, but they are being let down by the officials and political leaders deployed to serve them.
The Nangirima Bridge project is now under scrutiny, with locals calling for an audit and for those responsible for the shoddy work to be held accountable.
