Rakai District – The government’s intensified campaign against corruption has reached Rakai District, where a high-level delegation led by Hon. Barugahara Balaam, together with Hon. Justine Nameere and Hon. Anifa Bangirana Kawooya, Minister of State for Health, convened a special district accountability meeting on the directive of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The delegation was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Local Government, including Mr. Stephen Idha Koma, Commissioner for District Inspection, and Mr. Siwizin Kinga Mugyema, Commissioner for Local Councils Development. They were also joined by officers from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to fight and expose corruption in public institutions.

The special meeting attracted a wide range of district leaders and stakeholders, including the District Chairperson, members of the District Executive Committee, the District Speaker, district councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the District Police Commander (DPC), head teachers, LCIII chairpersons, medical workers, and representatives from various security agencies.

Chairing the meeting, Hon. Balaam emphasized that public officials entrusted with government resources must remain accountable to the people they serve. He specifically tasked the District Health Officer (DHO) and the District Engineer to provide a detailed account of the government funds allocated to their respective departments and explain how the resources had been utilized.

Hon. Balaam also called upon residents of Rakai District to actively participate in the accountability process by attending the meeting as witnesses, stressing that citizens have a vital role to play in ensuring transparency and safeguarding public resources. He noted that public involvement is essential in exposing corruption and strengthening service delivery across the district.
