MASAKA CITY – Newly elected leaders of Mukono Municipality, together with technical staff, members of the Municipal Development Forum, and the Security Committee, are currently undergoing a four-day induction programme in Masaka City.
The induction programme has been officiated by the Minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, who urged the leaders to uphold integrity and reject corruption in the execution of their duties.
Addressing the participants, Hon. Nameere emphasized that corruption often begins with leaders and called on them to set a positive example by conducting themselves with honesty, accountability, and transparency.
She also reminded the leaders to remain actively engaged with the communities they represent, particularly in the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM). The Minister urged them to closely monitor activities at the parish level and ensure that Parish Chiefs effectively implement the programme without compromising its objectives.
Hon. Nameere encouraged the leaders to remain committed to serving the public faithfully, warning them against engaging in theft, self-enrichment, or any form of abuse of office. She stressed that leadership should be guided by service, responsibility, and the public interest.
The Minister further cautioned the leaders to work with good intentions, maintain professionalism, and remain focused on delivering quality services without being intimidated by external pressures. She encouraged them to make decisions based on what is right and lawful.
Calling for greater accountability, Hon. Nameere urged the leaders to become whistleblowers whenever they detect wrongdoing or threats to effective service delivery. She assured them of her support, stating that her office remains available to address concerns and protect those who speak out in the public interest.
The induction programme is expected to equip Mukono Municipality’s newly elected leaders and officials with the knowledge and skills required to strengthen governance, improve service delivery, and promote effective implementation of government programmes within the municipality.
