Mbarara City – The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has chaired a high-level meeting at Mbarara City Hall aimed at assessing the implementation and impact of various government programs while addressing concerns over service delivery and corruption.

The meeting has together officials from the Ministry of Local Government, including Mr. Charles Magumba, Commissioner for Urban Administration, and Mr. Silver Tindizirarira, Assistant Commissioner for District Inspection. Also in attendance are representatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, security agencies, and the media.

The meeting is attended by the Mbarara City leadership, led by the City Mayor, the Speaker of Council, council members, technical staff, and members of the public. The gathering provides a platform to evaluate the effectiveness of government initiatives, identify implementation gaps, and to discuss measures to improve service delivery across the city.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Balaam has emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that public resources are utilized efficiently, transparently, and for the benefit of all citizens. He has stressed that accountability remains a top priority and warned against the misuse of public funds and abuse of office.

The minister has noted that the assessment exercise is intended to strengthen the implementation of government programs by identifying challenges, enhancing coordination among local leaders, and ensuring that government interventions achieve their intended objectives. He has urged all public officials to uphold integrity, professionalism, and accountability in the execution of their duties.

Hon. Balaam has further assured residents that the government will not tolerate corruption, promising that cases involving the misuse of public resources will be thoroughly investigated by the relevant authorities, including the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and security agencies. He has reaffirmed the government’s resolve to safeguard public funds and ensure they directly improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.

On behalf of the city leadership, the Mayor of Mbarara City welcomed Hon. Balaam and his delegation, expressing appreciation to the Ministry of Local Government for prioritizing Mbarara City. He thanked the minister for personally leading the assessment exercise and expressed optimism that the long-standing challenges affecting the city would be addressed through the government’s intervention.

The Mayor called for continued collaboration between the central government, local leaders, and the public to strengthen service delivery, promote accountability, and accelerate the city’s development. He expressed hope that the meeting would mark a turning point in resolving the challenges facing Mbarara City and improving the welfare of its residents.
