Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga has reaffirmed her commitment to improving the working environment for traders in Nyendo by officiating a stakeholders’ meeting that resolved to redevelop the Nyendo Nsenene Market Stage through paving with paving blocks.

The meeting, held at Nyendo Nsenene Market, brought together city officials, market leaders, and members of the local business community to address the longstanding challenges affecting traders operating at the stage. For years, the area has remained unpaved, becoming muddy and nearly impassable whenever it rains. These conditions have led to repeated destruction of merchandise, reduced customer access, and significant financial losses for traders.

While presiding over the meeting, Hon. Nameere emphasized that markets are engines of local economic growth and that traders deserve a safe, clean, and accessible environment in which to conduct business.

She welcomed the resolution by the Office of the City Town Clerk to allocate funds for the redevelopment of the stage through the installation of paving blocks. The project will commence from the frontage of the shops and will be integrated with the existing drainage and pedestrian walkway infrastructure along the Nyendo–Kampala Road and the Nyendo–Bukakata Road.

The redevelopment is expected not only to provide a durable trading surface but also to address persistent drainage problems caused by stormwater flowing from surrounding buildings and adjoining roofs, which have been responsible for recurrent flooding and mud accumulation within the market.

Construction works are scheduled to commence on 14th August 2026 and are expected to be completed within thirty (30) days. The project will be designed and implemented by DTM Engineering Company Limited.

The meeting also considered concerns regarding an encroached road corridor that appears on the approved Town Physical Plan but has since been occupied by a private structure. It was resolved that the City Town Planner will verify the authenticity of the land title claimed by the occupant against the approved Physical Plan. Upon completion of this verification, appropriate action will be taken to reopen the corridor to improve accessibility to Nyendo Market, which was commissioned by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2016.

Hon. Nameere commended the collaborative efforts of the City leadership and the local community in finding practical solutions to challenges affecting the market. She called upon all stakeholders to support the implementation of the resolutions and urged traders to continue working closely with the City authorities to ensure the successful completion of the project.

The Office of the City Town Clerk will oversee the release and accountability of funds while ensuring proper coordination of the paving works with the existing drainage infrastructure. At the same time, the City Town Planner will expedite the verification process regarding the encroached road reserve so that the planned improvements in connectivity can be realized.

The redevelopment of Nyendo Nsenene Market Stage marks another important step toward enhancing market infrastructure, improving the business environment, and promoting sustainable urban development within Masaka City. Under the leadership and oversight of Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, the initiative reflects a continued commitment to addressing community concerns through responsive leadership and practical development interventions that directly improve the livelihoods of local traders.
