The Minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, has officially launched the construction of over 69 kilometres of community access roads under the Rural Development and Food Security (RUDSEC) Project in the Acholi Sub-region.
The launch was attended by the area Member of Parliament, political and technical leaders from the districts of Agago, Lamwo and Pader, officials from the Ministry of Local Government, development partners, contractors, and members of the community.
Speaking during the launch, Hon. Nameere said RUDSEC project, funded by the Government of Uganda in partnership with the German Government through KfW Development Bank, will improve rural connectivity, reduce transport costs, minimize post-harvest losses, and connect farmers to markets, in line with the objectives of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The works cover four road sections: Kalongo Lomoi Road Sections A (15km) and B (14.9km) in Agago District, Corner Ogwec–Tenten Road (21.6km) in Lamwo District, and Puranga–Ogonyo–Achola Stream Road (18km) in Pader District.
The Minister directed contractors to deliver quality, climate-resilient roads, warning that Government will not tolerate delays, substandard work, or corruption. She pledged the Ministry’s political support to ensure the successful implementation of the project, noting that she and the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, would work closely with the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ben Kumumanya, to ensure better project delivery.
Hon. Nameere also challenged Resident District Commissioners, District Chairpersons and Chief Administrative Officers in Pader, Agago and Lamwo to provide strict oversight of the works through regular site inspections. She urged communities to protect project equipment and road infrastructure from vandalism, cooperate with contractors, take advantage of employment opportunities created during construction, and prepare to maximize the economic benefits that the improved roads will bring.
She encouraged residents to increase agricultural production and strengthen their savings groups so they are ready to fully benefit from the improved access to markets once the roads are completed.
Hon. Nameere thanked the German Government and KfW Development Bank for their continued partnership with the Ministry of Local Government, saying the collaboration is laying a strong foundation for sustainable economic growth in Northern Uganda.
