Residents have been briefed on the major resolutions reached during the recent special council sitting, with several key issues affecting communities receiving immediate attention.

Speaking to the residents, Hon. Balaam highlighted concerns surrounding the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), noting that reports presented during the council meeting revealed that some PDM committees have been infiltrated by fraudsters. To address the issue, he announced that the minister will next week dispatch Hon. Nameere to investigate the allegations, engage with affected communities, and ensure that appropriate action is taken against those involved.

Hon. Balaam also conveyed the minister’s appeal to residents who claim to have been defrauded under the PDM programme. He urged victims to present credible evidence when making accusations against individuals, emphasizing that proper documentation and proof will enable authorities to investigate cases thoroughly and hold the guilty accountable while protecting innocent people from false allegations.

On the issue of Local Council I (LCI) elections, which has generated numerous complaints from residents, Hon. Balaam informed the gathering that the minister acknowledged the concerns raised during the special council sitting. As a result, fresh elections will be conducted in villages where irregularities and disputes were identified, ensuring that affected communities have a fair and transparent electoral process.

Education was another key topic discussed during the meeting. Hon. Balaam said the minister directed that schools should work closely with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to agree on reasonable contributions for learners’ meals. At the same time, he stressed that no child should be sent home because of unpaid school fees, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has uninterrupted access to education.
