Moyo District — Hon. Balaam has undergone a blood test at Gwere Health Center II in Moyo district, saying the move was intended to show that government health facilities are working and should be trusted by the public.

Speaking after the medical tests, Hon. Balaam said he chose to be tested openly to prove the capability of health centers at the community level.

“I have taken this test here to prove that our health centers work. People should embrace them and use the services government has provided,” he told residents and health workers.

The minister’s HIV results came back negative. Hon. Balaam noted that the instant tests were conducted in front of people and asked the media to capture it. He said this was deliberate, to encourage everyone to go for an HIV check-up without fear or stigma.

“Let the media capture this. I have tested and my results are negative. We need to normalize testing. Go to the health center and know your status,” he said.

After the tests, Hon. Balaam addressed the youth and advised them to also go for regular medical check-ups. He urged them to ensure both partners are tested for HIV and other diseases before engaging in sexual activity.

“Youth, go for tests. Before sleeping with anyone, have your partner tested for HIV and other diseases. That is how we protect ourselves and each other,” he advised.

Hon. Balaam also raised concern over the high pregnancy rate among young people in the district. He called on the youth to be more careful and responsible in their choices.

“There is a high pregnancy rate among our youth. Be more careful, think about your future, and use the health services available to you,” he said.

Staff at Gwere Health Center II welcomed the visit, saying that leaders using local health facilities helps build public confidence and increases uptake of services such as HIV testing, antenatal care, and general treatment.
