Mbale District —

Hon. Balaam and Hon. Nameere have inspected the gravity water project in Bubyangu Sub-county, Mbale District, following concerns over persistent water shortages affecting local communities.

During the inspection, the leaders assessed the progress and quality of the project, which was intended to improve access to clean and safe water in the area. Residents have continued to experience water scarcity despite substantial government funding allocated to the initiative.

According to information shared during the visit, the project received an initial allocation of UGX 2 billion, with an additional UGX 40 million later provided to facilitate its completion. However, concerns have been raised over the quality and implementation of the works.

Authorities have reportedly arrested the project engineer as investigations continue into allegations of poor project execution and possible mismanagement of public funds. Officials say the investigations will establish whether the allocated resources were properly utilized and determine accountability where necessary.

Community members expressed hope that the inspection and ongoing investigations will lead to the completion of the project and ensure that residents of Bubyangu Sub-county finally gain reliable access to clean water.
